The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a statistician as: “one versed in or engaged in compiling statistics.” However, the role of a statistician is much, much more. In this talk, I will describe how my work as a statistician has provided me the opportunity to be an educator, a collaborator, and a leader. I will use my work from the CDC-funded Diabetes Location, Environmental Attributes, and Determinants (LEAD) Network to emphasize the ways in which I have done more than just compile statistics in my research, highlighting the unique contributions statisticians can make.
